Geomex, sexier   18 March 2009

During the 1.1 update, I spent a bit of time tweaking the graphics. Okay, an excessive amount of time. The results are quite subtle. I was tempted to go overboard and add a tonne of flashy graphics, but I just don’t think it’s appropriate for Geomex. The graphics are meant to be simple and easy to “read”. Special FX are important (they give the player feedback) but it’s all too easy to go overboard with them at the expense of readability.

Anyway! The new look:

You’ll note the addition of the rather sexy drop shadows. The more obsessive Geomex players among you will also note that I’ve made the borders on the shapes a bit thicker. The thicker borders set against the dark shadows make the borders stand out more, so the combo coloured borders are more readable. There’s also a slight gradient inside the shapes. This is much more noticeable on the super-bright iPhone screens.
